Abstract
In 1978, the City of Arcata requested assistance from the California Coastal Commission in the restoration of relatively scarce and degraded marshland within the Arcata City limits, leading to the creation of the Arcata Marsh Enhancement Project. Based on the finding that the project was feasible, the City of Arcata and the California Coastal Conservancy created a Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR). Expected benefits of the project include increased habitat for native and migratory birds, improved treatment of inflowing waters before they reach Humboldt Bay, and future opportunities for aquaculture and recreational fishing while restoring ecological function to a previously disturbed landscape. Work was completed under CDP 79-P-64, which authorized development of Klopp Lake and construction of three marshes that are now the enhancement wetlands. Original CDP not available online.
