Abstract

The California Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration proposed to seismically retrofit the State Route 255 that spans along Humboldt Bay, including the three Humboldt Bay Bridges. The project was designed to reinforce the bridge piers to reduce the risk of collapse, thereby minimizing the potential for loss of life and environmental damage during a major earthquake. This document outlines the eelgrass mitigation plan developed to minimize impacts on eelgrass populations during project construction.
