Abstract
The Slumping Process was discovered in the context of Pacific Free School, which was a loosely structured secondary school that offered an alternative to the public high school system of education. This study was conducted during Pacific Free School's second year of operation. For those who are unfamiliar with free schools or those who have been confused by the varied uses of the term (Cooper, 1971; Graubard, 1972) a brief definition is in order. Free schools are designed to offer an alternative to local public school systems. Inherent in the ideology of most free schools are the concepts of personal growth, creativeness, individualism and sensitivity.
