Abstract
The research proposed in this paper involved such an application of current quantitative methods in an experimental investigation of the effects of environmental lighting conditions on the variables of self-disclosure (a dialogic, message-content variable) and interpersonal attraction (an intra-interpersonal unidimensional perceptual variable) in subjects engaged in one hour of structured dyadic interaction in a lighting controlled setting. This research would hope to bring to light some important information regarding the effects of illumination of the environment on both the content of what is being said, and the perception of the communicators. Past research, especially that of Kenneth Gergen and his associates, Sidney Jourard’s research on self-disclosure, Berscheid and Walster’s research, and Byrne^s research on interpersonal attraction, has indicated a fertile ground for discovering significant new relation" ships in the total communication context.
