Abstract
One-hundred-eighty-seven Humboldt State University campus community members (115 females, 72 males) participated in a baseline assessment of acquaintance rape. Using a survey questionnaire composed of closed- and open-ended questions, this study polled the campus community’s perception of acquaintance rape at Humboldt State University, including the efficacy of information dissemination and campus services. Sixty-eight percent of the respondents perceived acquaintance rape as a problem on campus. Fifty-nine percent had not heard or seen information on acquaintance rape. Only seventeen percent of the sample indicated that the campus administration was effective in executing policies and procedures on acquaintance rape. This study clearly demonstrates the need for a comprehensive sexual assault prevention program.
