Abstract
The American health care system is undergoing rapid change. The Clinton Administration is in the process of restructuring not only the way health care is delivered but is attempting to make access to health care more inclusive. This change will affect patients (the public), insurance companies, doctors, and the burgeoning alternative health care industry. Statistically, there is an increase in the number of people who are turning to and utilizing alternative health care as their preferred method of treatment. This thesis attempts to determine the prevalence of alternative health care use in the Arcata/Eureka area and to assess if it is used either as a first resource or in conjunction with Western, mainstream medicine.
