Abstract

The California Fish and Game Commission prepared a Tidal Marsh Geometric Relations study in order to develop hydraulic geometry relations for tidal marshes in Humboldt Bay. Historically, Humboldt Bay supported approximately 2,833 hectares of tidal wetlands, however development and land reclamation has reduced the habitat to about 393 hectares. The purpose of this study is to develop empirical relations for tidal marshes in Humboldt Bay. These relations will be compared to those developed by PWA (2004) in San Francisco Bay marshes to determine (1) whether there is evidence that PWA (2004) relations are transferable to Humboldt Bay, and (2) the potential error associated with extrapolating relations (Humboldt Bay and San Francisco Bay) to smaller marsh areas.
