Abstract
The Second Year Mitigation Monitoring Report documents the South Broadway Mitigation Monitoring Project (1993), which was implemented to compensate for the loss of 3.71 acres of wetlands at the South Bay Broadway site. As part of the Eureka Local Coastal Program, the City of Eureka and the California Coastal Commission created a mitigation plan that includes the creation of 6.65 acres of riparian wood and marsh lands, and 0.15 acres of uplands within the Elk River Wildlife Area. This report evaluates the second year of post construction monitoring, emphasizing on hydrology, vegetation establishment, woodland development, and avian habitat use to assess restoration progress.
