Authors retain complete ownership and rights over their publications. Authors allow Humboldt State University Press to publish online in open access with Creative Commons licenses. See below for more details.
Copyright, Attribution, and Usage
If a submission is accepted for publication, Humboldt University Press reserves first North American publishing rights, and non-exclusive rights to reproduce, display, and distribute the work in print, online, or on other media platforms in perpetuity. Author(s) grant Humboldt State University Press the right to use the Author's name(s) for advertising and promotional materials in association with the publication.
The publication will be hosted as a freely available online text under a Creative Commons license to be determined by the author. Visit the Creative Commons website to view options. Print rights return to the Author(s) after first publication by Humboldt State University Press. Therein author(s) are free to publish the work as they wish, including in book marketplaces. Until the textbook is published by Humboldt State University Press, personal-use exceptions are granted to all contributors, as described below.
Any use or adaptation of the manuscript must clearly identify the Author(s) as creator. Reproduction, posting, transmission or other distribution or use of the material or any material therein, in any medium, outside the use allowed by the Creative Commons license will require signed written permission by the Author(s).
Pre-Publication Personal-Use Exceptions
The following personal-use exceptions do not require further permission from Humboldt State University Press:
- Storage and back-up of the work on the author's computer(s) and digital media (e.g., diskettes, back-up servers, Zip disks, etc.), provided that the work stored on these computers and media is not readily accessible by persons other than the author(s);
- Posting of the work on the author(s) personal website, provided that the website is non-commercial;
- Posting of the work on the internet as part of a non-commercial open access institutional repository or other non-commercial open access publication site affiliated with the author(s)'s place of employment; and
- Posting of the work on a non-commercial course website for a course being taught by the author at the university or college employing the author.
Any reproduction, posting, transmission or other distribution or use of the material or any material therein, in any medium, outside of these personal-use exceptions will require signed written permission by the Publisher.
General Terms and Conditions of Use
Users of the Digital Commons @ Humboldt State University website and/or software agree not to misuse the Digital Commons @ Humboldt State University service or software in any way. The failure of Humboldt State University Press and Digital Commons @ Humboldt State University to exercise or enforce any right or provision in the policies or the Submission Agreement does not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. If any term of the Submission Agreement or these policies is found to be invalid, the parties nevertheless agree that the court should endeavor to give effect to the parties' intentions as reflected in the provision, and the other provisions of the Submission Agreement and these policies remain in full force and effect. These policies and the Submission Agreement constitute the entire agreement among Humboldt State University Press, Digital Commons @ Humboldt State University and the Author(s) regarding submission of the work.
