Purpose
The Press at Cal Poly Humboldt publishes high-quality, open-access scholarly, intellectual, and creative works by or in support of our campus community. The Press operations and publications facilitate campus-wide student learning experiences, staff and faculty success, and a more just and sustainable world.
Publication Model
The Press at Cal Poly Humboldt publishes open-access digital content in support of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community authors and researchers. Press operations are facilitated by student assistants gaining hands-on experience in the publishing industry. The Press is a non-profit service of the Cal Poly Humboldt Library and requires no fees for publication. Authors retain copyright over their publications and control over print distribution, including the designation of royalties.
Services
The Press at Cal Poly Humboldt can provide layout, design, editorial, peer-review, and marketing services and consultation. The Press provides services by mutual agreement and at the discretion of the Press. Student trainees facilitate all operations, which may limit the scale or application of services. The Press does not manage print distribution but will provide authors with the print-compatible files necessary to establish a print-on-demand account.
Scope
The Press at Cal Poly Humboldt prioritizes high-quality scholarly, intellectual, and creative works authored by, or of particular interest to, the Cal Poly Humboldt campus community. The Press also considers works that would be of particular interest to the local Humboldt community or that emphasize social or environmental justice, including nonfiction trade, fiction, poetry, and children’s books. The Press reserves the right to refuse any submission for any reason.
Submissions
Submissions to the Press at Cal Poly Humboldt can be delivered via the Submit Proposal link or directly via the press@humboldt.edu email. Proposal evaluation requires the submission of the entire manuscript or of chapter selections with a table of contents. Please include a summary of your submission, a short biography, and a note about why your work would be of interest to your intended audience. While the Press accepts unsolicited submissions, it is under no responsibility to respond to such submissions.
Donations
The Press at Cal Poly Humboldt is a non-profit service supported in part by donations from community members. Donating to the Press is an impactful way to support both the academic growth of students and the preservation of important cultural and social narratives from our area.
