Abstract
This thesis proposes to trace the thread of transcendence through the theories of Durkheim, Berger and Luckman, and Karl Deutsch. This thread is seen as twofold, as it is attached to the transcendent process, consisting of structural involvement, and also of informational involvement. The process of transcendence itself will be "held constant" by making it the central focus of the investigation. This will allow the other two terms to be examined with respect to it. A discussion of the implications of this study will conclude the presentation*
