Abstract
This paper will investigate the phenomena, ’’the professions”. It will be a sociological inquiry, not merely a chronological review. Thus it will attempt to study the development of the professions in terms of the development of the major organizational form in the world today, bureaucracy, and the growth in size of societal organizations, national and international, as feudalism receded and industrialization developed. likewise the study will include consideration of dynamic factors internal to the professions such as social class of practitioners, sub-divisions of established professions into new professions, splits within professional associations due to conflicts over policy, etc.
