Abstract
"The Wiyot History Papers are an astonishing and deeply moving set of documents. They contain the only known statements that were both given by and recorded by Indians, probably dictated in the Wiyot language in the early 1920s by several Wiyot elders and translated and transcribed by a younger Wiyot, Warren Brenard. The accounts give great insight into what actually happened to the Humboldt County Indians in the mid-19th century and are testimony to the courage and endurance of a people who for years were under merciless attack."--Introduction
