Description

This is a transcript of an oral history interview with Kianna Znika, who was the Social Media Manager at Cal Poly Humboldt for the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. She was a journalism student in her senior year during the protests. She led the reporting on the protests at KRFH and was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize by [the KRFH Radio Adviser & Lecturer] for her efforts in leading the reporting. She was on the scene reporting as the arrests were happening, and described the intensity and fear she felt during the event. She recalls tirelessly working at the radio station, ensuring the public was informed about the protest and its updates. When the campus had its hard closure, she helped ensure the radio station could be broadcast remotely and continued to provide updates with her team.

She also explained her experience as a student at the same time. Luckily, as she was a journalism student, her work at KRFH helped support her end-of-year projects that she had missed or was unable to complete. She was graduating and did not end up going to her journalism graduation ceremony, opting to go only to the Latinx Graduation.
