Abstract
This work on the Humboldt County, California, Fisheries is an attempt to make available under one cover a collection of the activities of fishing in the county as reported in the Humboldt Times between 1854 and 1892. The need of a compiled source of information on the history of fisheries in Humboldt County was made noticeable when I personally tried to.locate articles on the subject. In discussing it with Mr. Charles Bloom of the Humboldt State College library, it was brought out that a compilation of early articles on the subject should be made so it would be available for future students in the Fisheries program. The Humboldt Times was chosen as the source of material on the basis that it was the paper most readily available and the one most quoted by historians of Humboldt County. The Humboldt Times has the longest record of unbroken newspaper service in Humboldt County and quoted the more pertinent articles from other local papers that are not available at this time.
