Abstract
Intergenerational health programming has been shown to elicit positive physical, mental, psychological and social health benefits of all participants due to the educational impact and social engagement of synchronized movement and understanding of other generations. Research continues to show the efficacy of yoga in mind - body - spirit - connection health benefits and is accessible to bodies across the lifespan. People of all ages can benefit from an intergenerational yoga program, particularly in a rural location where there are less opportunities for physical activity participation. The purpose of this project is to apply for Humboldt Area Foundation + Wild Rivers Community Foundation’s Arcata Foundation Fund, given the grant’s focus to fund educational, recreational, cultural and environmental health services intended to enhance community life in Arcata, Humboldt County, California. The purpose of the intergenerational yoga intervention is to build stronger social awareness and engagement while improving physical and mental health by recruiting participants of all ages in Humboldt County. The efficacy of the yoga program will be evaluated by assessing mind (Self-Other-Four Immeasurables (SOFI)), body (single limb stance (SLS)), spirit (Meditation Breath Attention Scores (MBAS)), and community (Community & Well-Being Survey). The project request is to reconcile the yoga community in rural Humboldt County that brings all age groups together to enhance mind - body - spirit - connection health benefits as a community.
