Abstract
It is, then, the purpose of this study to examine the relation of distributive processes to social mobility within the context of a generalized conceptual scheme consisting of statistical methods, graphical techniques, and diagramatic representation. There are two categories of sociological knowledge dominating the field that these methods may help to integrate: either there are masses of data without theory to explain them or there are theories without data to support them. Thus, under a general system, if a specific connection between social configurations cannot be shown exactly but there is agreement that it does exist, then it should be allowed at least a temporary place in a general theory.
