Elle Barnes is a non-binary artists working mainly with mixed media pieces, using their background in painting they incorporate aspects of sculpture, poetry, and consistent themes of how our identity influences our lives. Using figures of the human body Elle touches on the concept of gender and gender identity, usually keeping in mind the same end goal; of making someone feel seen and validated. Through their art they are using their work as both a therapy and a necessity, not only for themselves but for those who have also felt as if they do not have a space. Art is not as much a choice for Elle on some occasions as it is more along the lines of freedom from the box they feel they were placed in.
