IdeaFest: Interdisciplinary Journal of Creative Works and Research from Cal Poly Humboldt

About This Journal

ideaFest: Interdisciplinary Journal of Creative Works and Research from Cal Poly Humboldt is a refereed, open-access publication established to encourage scholarly conversations across the disciplines.ideaFest seeks to enable Cal Poly Humboldt researchers to connect with audiences worldwide and efficiently communicate findings with a sense of timeliness.

The journal is an outgrowth of Cal Poly Humboldt’s IdeaFest, a day-long event which celebrates the collaborative research and creative projects of faculty and students from across campus. Participants in the event are especially welcome to submit their work to the journal, but the journal is open to all members of the Cal Poly Humboldt community each year, regardless of involvement in ideaFest events. ideaFest Journal publishes a wide range of research articles, interviews, visual arguments, and creative works from across the disciplines. It is meant to represent the diversity of scholarly and creative output at Cal Poly Humboldt. The journal showcases the work of undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, faculty, and staff from Cal Poly Humboldt.


The mission of ideaFest is:

  1. to promote scholarship, writing and other forms of creative production for readerships beyond the classroom at Cal Poly Humboldt, guided by the belief that publishing is an important part of interdisciplinary higher education; and
  2. to showcase the knowledge production and creative output of members of the Cal Poly Humboldt community.

Editorial Board

ideaFest: Interdisciplinary Journal of Creative Works and Research from Cal Poly Humboldt is edited by a rotating board membership of staff, faculty, and students at Cal Poly Humboldt. Because the editorial process includes student involvement, the journal augments the curriculum by providing undergraduates and graduate students from multiple majors hands-on experience with scholarly communication and digital publishing. Students involved in the production of this scholarly journal learn aspects of the publication process including: typesetting, design and layout, printing and production, circulation and promotions, and event coordination.
