Who Can Submit?

Undergraduates who are currently enrolled or who were enrolled in Fall 2018 can submit materials to be considered for publication in Expanding Understanding: Exploring Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Philosophy provided they own the copyright to the work being submitted or are authorized by the copyright owner or owners to submit the article. Authors and artists are the initial owners of the copyrights to their works (an exception in the non-academic world to this might exist if the authors have, as a condition of employment, agreed to transfer copyright to their employer).

General Submission Rules

Submitted material cannot have been previously published, nor be forthcoming in a journal or book (print or electronic).Please note: "publication" in a working-paper series does not constitute prior publication. Authors and artists may submit materials that are currently under review elsewhere. Please note: This allowance does not invalidate any prior agreements that may have been made between the author(s) or artist(s) and other review boards concerning the materials; submissions that are accepted for publication in other journals or books (electronic or print) forfeit their eligibility for publication in Expanding Understanding: Exploring Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Philosophy. In addition, by submitting material to Expanding Understanding: Exploring Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Philosophy, the author(s) or artist(s) agrees to stipulate in the submission process if their material is currently under review elsewhere. The author(s) or artist(s) agrees to immediately notify the editors of Expanding Understanding: Exploring Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Philosophy if their material is accepted for publication elsewhere.   • A submission should be compiled as one document in the following order (semicolon identifies new page): blank page; title page; intent; main text (may include title); citations (if needed).
  • Page size should be 8.5 x 11-inches.
For Visual Art:

  • Submit your piece as a single file (Word, RTF, or PDF files are accepted).
  • A submission should be compiled as one document in the following order (semicolon identifies new page): blank page; title page; intent; main work (may include title).
