Abstract
This project utilized a literature review to demonstrate the importance of structured visitations. While children are in foster care they receive weekly visitations with their parents to maintain a bond. Because this visitation time is so important for parents and their children to maintain a bond and encourage attachment, it is crucial that the visitation be structured to help families find wellness and eventually reunite with their children. The researcher also created a model for the Humboldt County Family Connection Center (HCFCC) to use while conducting visitations with families. Through collaboration with the HCFCC staff, and researching other models that have been previously used, it was found that the HCFCC would best benefit from a needs assessment that looked at every aspect of the HCFCC, and a model that could be used to better the structure of visitations as well as the collaboration between social workers and family coaches.
