Description
This is an oral history interview transcript with GK, an assistant professor at Cal Poly Humboldt in the Department of Geography, Environment, and Spatial Analysis. They are Jewish and predominantly research Palestine. GK has been protesting against Zionism and for Palestinian rights for 15 years. They went to campus the night the protest broke out and entered Siemens Hall while students were pushing back against police. Later in the night, they witnessed Proud Boys singing the U.S.A. national anthem by the Student Center, perhaps as a counterprotest. GK did not stay to protest because they and their family were sick, and due to their longstanding efforts advocating for Palestine, they have had many opportunities to protest otherwise. They decided to help arrange legal aid for students suspended following accusations of their protest participation. GK spoke at the teach-in and went to the courthouse when students were arrested to help arrange bail. antisemitism is a topic greatly discussed in the interview; as GK explains, the focus of the accusation is placed upon Palestine supporters rather than a focus on white supremacy in the United States and Humboldt County. GK is greatly critical of the administration and surprised that the police were sent in as early as they were.
