Aims & Scope

Purpose and Vision of the Anthology

Each edition of Voices of Care: Reflections from Nursing and the Health Professions serves as a living archive of care, creativity, and connection. A beautifully designed collection, published every few years, gathers the voices of those who work at the heart of health and healing across Northern California. Each book brings together stories, reflections, poems, essays, and visual works created by nursing and healthcare professionals, as well as those engaged in broader forms of carework.

Rooted in the understanding that caregiving is both a science and an art, the anthology creates space for expression beyond clinical settings. Here, practitioners reflect on the human experiences that shape their work: moments of resilience and vulnerability, ethical complexity, quiet compassion, and the profound relationships formed in the act of caring.

By publishing this collection periodically, the anthology captures an evolving portrait of healthcare in the region, shaped by changing challenges, innovations, and lived experiences. The project invites contributors to step outside formal roles and speak in their own voices, and it invites readers to witness the depth, complexity, and humanity behind the work of care.

At its core, the anthology affirms that storytelling is itself a form of care. Each edition is meant to nurture connection, reflection, and understanding across communities. We thank our readers and contributors for being in conversation together through story-sharing and art-making.
