Abstract

My community project surveyed domestic violence survivors on their experiences with medical/healthcare providers. There are little to no guidelines, protocols or training for medical providers to provide services for survivors of domestic violence. By surveying survivors at Humboldt Domestic Violence Services, I was able to begin to understand how services were provided for survivors when they disclosed experiences of domestic violence. Throughout my project, participants were given the opportunity to answer eight "Yes" and "No" questions, and three open-ended questions. One finding states that only two respondents answered yes that a provider asked about their overall safety in their intimate relationship. The results of this project available to the community will provide a brief understanding of survivors' experiences as well as opportunities to provide better services, including better training and set protocols in place for medical/healthcare providers.
