Abstract
The abuse of people with developmental disabilities is a significant problem in California, with rates of abuse 4-10 times higher than that of the general population. In addition, there is a lack of provider training in relation to clients' rights and mandated reporting, and in 44% of cases of abuse the perpetrator is a service provider. This project is aimed at educating direct support providers about clients' rights, abuse prevention, recognizing abuse, and mandated reporting in order to address the problem of the prevalent abuse of people with developmental disabilities. This curriculum contains information specific to the Eureka/Arcata area, but can be modified for use in other parts of California.
