Abstract
The overarching goal of this project is to ascertain the communities' readiness to bring together existing agencies and community supports to collaboratively provide an expedient and professional response to children who have experienced, or may have experienced, sexual abuse. A Child Abuse Service Team (CAST) is a multi-disciplinary team approach to assisting with the forensic interviews of sexually abused children. A community readiness assessment was utilized to assess the community level of awareness of sexual abuse of children in the community, determine the level of need of a CAST program, how supportive stakeholders were with the issue, what resources were available, identified barriers and potential solutions and ultimately, to determine how prepared the community was to take the next step of potential development and future implementation of CAST. The overall community readiness score for Del Norte County is indicative of the community being at a pre-planning stage.
